perhaps the best

The name is Khairul. Would do fine with Khai or Kerol [kay-roll] - with proper pronunciation that is.

May have caused a traumatic experience to the nurses who were there when I graced the world on the 14th of June, 21 years ago.

I reside at the great eastern side of Singapore. At an estate named after a water containment facility. Go figure!

A left-hander. However, I function more like a right. And sometimes left of course.

Owns a Class 3 driving licence.

Have been playing the saxophone for 8 years. Currently a Baritone Saxophonist in the Philharmonic Youth Winds.

Being and socialising with people occupy whatever free time I might have.

Boredom is sadly pathetic - would be just staring at my ceiling.

And recently, graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts where I pursued a diploma in Arts Management, majoring in Performing Arts.

PHILWINDS GOES POP!
11:43 PM

Sunday- Surprisingly, I woke up very early; ten in the morning. Haha! Alright, that is not really very early, but as compared to other Sundays, I totally deserve a pat on my back. Heh! Mom came up to me while I was using the PC, and asked whether I would like to tag along for her usual morning breakfast at Tekka and then to the temporary Tekka wet market. Without much hesitation, I took a shower and got changed. Second and third brother tagged along too.

Went to the usual place that Mom would always go to. Good food! Trust me. I ate Chicken Briyani and it was truly heaven-licious. I know, Briyani for BREAKFAST?! I was super hungry, so I ate something heavy. It is not that I ALWAYS eat that, right? Thosai for Mom and third bro, and plain rice with dishes for second bro and Dad.

After breakfast was to the temporary market and I swear, it was like an exchange of fresh air! I mean, the last time I went to a really raw wet market was probably thousand eon years ago. Followed Mom as she skillfully made left and right turns around. Bro was behind me and we were having quite a hard time catching up. Haha! She went to quite a number of stalls and all she did was tell the person what she wants and then came back to collect it. At one point, we were watching the fishmonger filleting the huge fish Mom bought. While waiting, she showed us what kind of fish would be great for barbequeing and all. Learnt a tip or two too! Bought quite a number of stuffs and when I was at one of the stall, the owner thought that my Mom was my sister. Haha! Nothing that surprises me, I always get that. Bought fruits (rock melons; my favourite!) and second bro drove us home.

An hour after I got home, showered (again) and headed back out again. Met Idham and then off to City Hall to meet up with Nich and Khai Boon. The saxophone section of the Philharmonic Youth Winds. It was more like a get-together. Headed to The Esplanade after we had our early dinner. Met up with some of the PHILyouth peeps and delegated duties to give out the lightsticks. Mr Chiang needed our help to give out the lightsticks (last minute).

I shall leave this portion for pictures.

We had to start breaking the light sticks for the audience.
There were A LOT to break, that is for sure.

Looking back at the picture, I have no idea what I was trying to do. Haha!
Idham was breaking it like Confucious, if you get what I mean.

Deprived.

I like the effect. Cool stuff.

Philharmonic Youth Winds Saxophone section.
Left to right:
Idham (Tenor), Khai Boon and Nich (Alto) and me (Baritone)

After were done with giving out the lightsticks, it was time for us to go into the hall and enjoy the concert!

Basically, the concert was simply awesome! First time attending a concert by the Philharmonic Winds with a rowdy and pumped up audience. Yeah, PHILwinds went POP! There were quite a number of songs that we can recognise from at least somewhere. Definitely, some of the recognisable ones were songs like 'Sweet Child of Mine' by Guns and Roses, 'Hello' by Lionel Richie, 'I Believe' from the romantic-comedy movie "My Sassy Girl" are just some of them to name a few.

There were two guest singers. First singer that went out was Tay Kewei. She is one hot singer. She sang 'Fly me to the moon'; jazz style, some French song which she ended it with a flying kiss and another which I can't seem to recall. But anyway, she was awesome!

Comes the twenty minutes intermission and had this idea of heading down to the first floor, hoping that we would bump into Kewei. And so we did! There were quite a number of people who wanted to take pictures with her but did not seem to have the courage to step forward and ask. So, I went forward and asked her politely; and she agreed! Haha!

Drum roll . . . .

And I got to take picture with her.
I complimented on her nice singing and all she did
was to smile widely and said thank you.
Cheeky?? Nah!

The next singer was Sebastian Tan. He sang two hit-songs by Robbie Williams. 'Angels' and 'Better man', and some tai-tai Hokkien song. In case you do not know who Sebastian Tan is. He was one of the actors who acted in Army Daze. Yes ladies! He's an actor AND a singer.

Last piece of the night was the mega-hit song 'Umbrella', made famous by Rihanna. I have never heard of the band arrangement for that song and I must say, it was a very nice one. Cool stuff! YMCA was their encore piece and there were A HUGE GROUP of girls sitting behind us, shouting "C... H.. I.. J!" in replacement of the ORIGINAL, "Y.M.C.A.". Excuse me, this is The Philharmonic Winds' concert, not CHIJ's. All I heard was CHIJ! What the heck?

Concert ended with a loud cheer (from that huge group of CHIJ girls behind us). It ended promptly at 10 pm. It was one of a kind concert, especially by the Philharmonic Winds. It gave a breath of fresh air and it definitely showed the versatility of Singapore's top wind band. Will be looking forward to more concerts in the near future.

Going to abruptly end my entry because I am getting pretty tired.
Ciao!
