If you are still living under a rock, then I think this post will enlighten you further. The day I have been waiting for finally came. Of all the topics that existed, People and Politics seemed to entice me. By far, US (as in United States) politics caught my eye the most.As eager I was to witness it live after reading it on the papers, I got back and checked the telly. What a bummer! We did not subscribe to CNN. For once I grumbled when I found that I will not be able to witness this historic event live.
But..... Thank heavens for INTERNET! And FACEBOOK! Credits to Rafidah for getting the link for me. I started watching it at 1030 pm and watched it all the way till the president-elect was officially the 44th president of the United States. I watched closely and everything that I saw, caught my attention. It felt like I was a citizen of the United States that day! Wait, I was one of the 2 million people who were there. Hahaha! Right~!
Before Obama took the Oath of Office, there was a performance by fantastic musicians (Itzhak Perlman; Violin, Yo-Yo Ma; cello, Gabriela Montero; Piano and Anthony McGill; Clarinet). They played a musical selection of "Air and Simple Gifts" by John Williams. It was amazing I tell you.
And so, after he took the Oath of Office, he was officially the 44th President of the United States of America; being the 1st African-American to be sworn in as president. His inaugural address was amazing. The way he reached out to his citizen and ensure that he will mean what say was just inspiring. After his speech was the poem reading. By then I was too tired, due to the rather long day I had earlier, and the boring poem too! Haha! So, I lay on the floor and the next thing I know I was woken up by a friend's instant message. By then I knew I had already missed the national anthem.
A change is what we need, especially when the world is filled with hatred and never-ending killings. Coming from a country that harmony and peace breeds in every corner, it is saddening to hear that in another part of the world, a killing spree is ongoing. Children gets killed. Civilians, innocent lives, friends and families too. I have faith that President Barack Obama will positively influence his nation and start to tackle these uprising problem together.
For I am proud of this day.
Truly a historic event that billions had witnessed.
