perhaps the best

The name is Khairul. Would do fine with Khai or Kerol [kay-roll] - with proper pronunciation that is.

May have caused a traumatic experience to the nurses who were there when I graced the world on the 14th of June, 21 years ago.

I reside at the great eastern side of Singapore. At an estate named after a water containment facility. Go figure!

A left-hander. However, I function more like a right. And sometimes left of course.

Owns a Class 3 driving licence.

Have been playing the saxophone for 8 years. Currently a Baritone Saxophonist in the Philharmonic Youth Winds.

Being and socialising with people occupy whatever free time I might have.

Boredom is sadly pathetic - would be just staring at my ceiling.

And recently, graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts where I pursued a diploma in Arts Management, majoring in Performing Arts.

NASI AYAM PANGGANG
3:50 PM

It has been a while since I last did a food review. Wait, have I ever done one? I can't remember. Well anyway, had dinner with family at Changi Village food centre (CVFC) yesterday. Being a regular food junky, often patronising CVFC, gets me thinking what I should eat each time I'm there. Have practically tried almost everything there and trying the same thing would bore me. I can be quite picky when it comes to food, just to let you guys know *winks*.

So while I set my eyes looking at every menu that is posted up on the hawker's stall, nothing seems to interest me. Mind you, I covered a full 360 degrees revolution. Not till I saw a new stall that was directly behind me. If you'd ask me what's the name of the shop, it's such a shame cos of all things, I don't remember the stall name. But if you go there often, it is aligned with this drink stall that sells Teh Sarabat - the Indian Muslim stall. Just look out for a striking green headboard. You wouldn't miss it!

Headed over to the stall and ordered the first thing that is on the menu - Nasi Ayam Panggang (Roast Chicken with Rice) I will normally choose the first on the list if it's my first time patronising the stall. After I've placed my order, I saw pictures of the other things they are selling - Nasi Udang Panggang (Roast Prawns with Rice); Nasi Ikan Panggang (Roast Fish with Rice); Mee Soto Cendawan (Mushroom Mee Soto) and they had some platter which includes the roasted chicken, prawns and fish. I swear all of them looks awesomely delicious.

Anyway, here's what I bought:

Everything that was on the plate was perfect. The sauces gave me that home-y feeling. Do you see the darker-coloured sauce? It tasted somewhat like Asam Pedas but I couldn't decipher what it tastes like exactly. One thing for sure, it was nice. So a little tip if you were to buy this - get extra darker-coloured sauce! Haha! The soup that comes along was alright. The ginger and onions that is infused in the soup was a little strong. Mom said the soup is meant to 'buang angin' (to get rid of unwanted air inside the body via burping or "the other end"). I finished it in the end. Haha!

On the plate was also Belinjau crackers (I love them!), classic sandwich lettuce and cucumber, and the two wedges of orange brighten up my day, really! I think it is the first time I've eaten a hawker food of such standard! It was thoughtful I must say. At least it made me feel like I have just eaten something healthy.

Now, to the main thing - the rice and roasted chicken. Rice quantity was alright but the flavour was a little short. Wished the person had infused more chicken stock and salt into the rice. Subtle flavour is fine, but strong and rich flavour is a bonus! Haha! As for the chicken, loved it. It had a bit of everything here and there. Burnt skin, special sauce spilled over it and off-the-bones succulent meat. One downside of it is that the chicken was a little small. Wished the size could be bigger.

The price for that plate? $4
Cheap or whaaaaat?

I would definitely recommend any of you reading this to at least try ONCE. If it has got you hooked, congratulations - my work here is done :D

Cheers!

P/s: Well, the next time I'm there, I'm so gonna try their Nasi Udang Panggang!
