perhaps the best

The name is Khairul. Would do fine with Khai or Kerol [kay-roll] - with proper pronunciation that is.

May have caused a traumatic experience to the nurses who were there when I graced the world on the 14th of June, 21 years ago.

I reside at the great eastern side of Singapore. At an estate named after a water containment facility. Go figure!

A left-hander. However, I function more like a right. And sometimes left of course.

Owns a Class 3 driving licence.

Have been playing the saxophone for 8 years. Currently a Baritone Saxophonist in the Philharmonic Youth Winds.

Being and socialising with people occupy whatever free time I might have.

Boredom is sadly pathetic - would be just staring at my ceiling.

And recently, graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts where I pursued a diploma in Arts Management, majoring in Performing Arts.

KESIAN BOYZ™ GOES CYCLING, AGAIN!
7:09 PM

Saturday was here again. We were looking for activities to fill up our boring afternoon. Out of the blue, we decided on cycling. Yes, and this time round hardcore cycling.

Planned to meet up with the rest at 5-ish in the afternoon but before we could all make our way back to change, it started pouring heavily. The plan got delayed by an hour. So, I got Dad to send us (Fauzi, Izzat and myself) to Izzat's place. Met Idham, Ogy and Wayne at the usual bicycle shop in Pasir Ris and off we go!

Did I mention that we were doing hardcore cycling? Hardcore cycling = Hardcore route.

We went to this places in this order:
  • Pasir Ris
  • Loyang - There was this downhill slope which was quite steep. And as a result of it, we were "speeding". Unfortunately, as our dear Fauzi went downhill, his front tyre exploded, LITERALLY! There was an explosion of white smoke and what accompanied that was a really loud boom. Knowing that we are in the middle of nowhere (with no bicycle shop around), Fauzi hitch-hiked Ogy's bicycle while Izzat skillfully pushed the bike with one arm while cycling his bicycle.
  • Changi Village - There was where we got the tyre & tube changed. We conserved energy while waiting. And soon, we were off to go.
  • Changi Beach - From CV, we took the park connector into Changi Beach and that was when the extremely loooong bicycle track began. First up, we were along the beach and that wasn't as bad as what we were about to encounter. The further we proceeded, the darker it got.
  • THAT long stretch of road beside Changi Airport - If you know where it is, you would totally agree that it can be a long dreadful ride. Even if you are in the comfort of a car, it takes quite some time to reach from one end to the other. As I was cycling, I stared at what was in front of me. The road seemed never-ending! The rest were way ahead of Fauzi and myself. So, we took our time and kept it at a steady pace.
  • The DILEMMA - We arrived at the very end of what it seems like Forever-Road, we were all deciding whether to continue on INTO the park connector or to take the outside road. Why the dilemma? Because the park connector was extremely dark!! If you look into what the path awaits, you won't be able to see a thing! Trust me, it was to that extent that most of us were afraid to enter. But being us, we still wanted to take the chance. Call it cheap-thrills (HAHA!). Afraid that anything might happen, we decided to wait for passer-cyclists. We asked this pair of hardcore-cyclists who were much older (therefore, experienced) than us, and he led us to the way we were heading towards.
  • The SHOCKER - We followed the pair and came to another park connector. Upon entering another park connector, I swear, there stood the most beautiful night scenery I have ever seen. We were cycling next to a canal and what was in front of us was the open sea, which was littered with large ships. There were no lights along that path. Then came The SHOCKER. We dipped into a sharp right turn and the next thing we realised, we were in some jungle; IN DARKNESS! My heart was beating heavily. I bet the others were too. So, we followed each other closely.
  • Cycled pass National Service Resort and Country Club and FINALLY, we were at East Coast Park! We came a long long way. Waited for Heng Shoon and Syafiq at National Sailing Centre.
  • MacDonald's at East Coast Park for pit stop.
  • Mountbatten Road.
  • Kallang.
  • Singapore Indoor Stadium/ Kallang River - And there, one of nicest view! Took a rest.
  • One end of Geylang to the other - And believe it or not, we actually cycled through the lorongs. Haha! Don't worry, there were no intentions attached. But it was sure an eye-opener!
  • Paya Lebar.
  • Eunos.
  • Ubi.
  • Bedok Reservoir.
  • Tampines.
  • .... AND FINALLY back to Pasir Ris.
I was aching all over once we have reached Pasir Ris. And special thanks to Fairuz for fetching us in his Trajet! His car was spacious and that added extra comfort especially when we were aching all over. Late night supper at Hougang and home was the final destination.

Gonna end this simple.
Got home, showered, knocked-out!

Ciao!

p/s: Actually, I was thinking of posting up a map of the route we took but then realise that after halfway through doing the picture, we actually covered a lot of area. Hence, unable to fit the image and show you the exact route we took. Thousand apologies for this wordy post.
